You also didn't include the specific restrictions Apple adds in Objective C & Cocoa, App Store distribution, os/x 10.5, etc., that presumably apply to the iPad. Tablet Netbooks look more open, though without the sizzle. OLPC XO-3, Skiff Readers, HP & Dell tablet range all are part of a stimulation to the market, maybe initiated by Apple, but with considerable broader range. As such, though, no clear market-killer is likely to emerge, rather the market is likely to fracture, resulting in the high prices being maintained. OLED and colour e-Ink are a dream for the future, with paper thin displays, flexibility and durability, but may never arrive because of cost.
