EHR at the US Department of Defense

Here's a great example of EHR in action. In this case the US DoD, which has adopted EHR as a standard technology. I like this short film because it demonstrates what EHR is all about: safety and better outcomes for patients and better customer satisfaction. "The safety of the patient comes first" is a recurring theme throughout the article.

Quite rightly there's little reference to technology itself, apart from a brief description of a biometrics system used to ensure that the patients get the right drugs. What I also like about this story is the way that it demonstrates how a single project - the US DoD EHR - can be integrated with the systems of other stakeholders, driving benefits across the wider healthcare supply chain. In this example a pilot program by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Kaiser Permanente, that will allow the exchange of electronic health record information between VA and Kaiser providers, and soon the DoD as well.

  • Looks very nicely done, though the depth of the integration wasn't really shown - what systems are hooked in, and services are available.  Must be nice though to have that command structure that ensures things get done.

  • I tried to watch this demo, but it seems not available , when i press start button , the button automatically turns to pause....How can I get this?
